Save the Delaware from Fracking Rally – Photos from Trenton

Today I attended the Save The Delaware from Fracking rally in Trenton, NJ.  The event was a little less significant than originally, planned, but in a very positive way.  This week, the DRBC canceled the meeting to vote on opening up the Delaware River Basin for fracking.  The meeting wouldn’t have been canceled if they didn’t have all the votes to frack the heck out of the Delaware.  That makes for a very pleasant Thanksgiving for those that are trying to protect our health and water.

The rally began at the Trenton War Memorial where we heard from various speakers including Josh Fox, creator of Gasland, Mark Ruffalo, and Debra Winger and others who have been impacted directly from fracking.

After the speeches, we marched over to the New Jersey State House and voiced our displeasure of Governor Chris Christie’s choice to jeopardize our health and frack the Delaware.  His legislature has put forth a bill banning fracking, but Christie has vetoed it.

What’s the latest with this? I just watched Gasland. Wow. Unbelievably scary.

Nothing yet decided by the DRBC, but it seems like the more time that elapses, the more bad news that surfaces for the drilling companies. For example: On Dec. 8, the U.S. EPA released an official report which states that harmful chemicals consistent with fracking were found in a drinking water aquifer in west-central Wyoming. Regarding fracking across the United States, it’s continuing to grow.
