We know that the Canadian tar sands oil is a climate and environmental disaster, but did you ever think the Keystone Pipeline could be a terrorist attack target? As far back as 2005, Gal Luft, executive director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), has believed so.
Environmental Disaster
Environmental concerns have centered around the fact that this is the dirtiest oil imagineable and it will be traveling the entire length of the United States. That’s not safe to begin with. Leaks have plagued pipelines built in the US. Even more frightening is that TransCanada’s existing pipelines are leaking 14 times a year. Yup, this is what you don’t hear.
If you think we risk a leak of the dirtiest most harmful oil on the planet through mechanical failures, what about man caused havoc? In today’s terror wars, the Keystone XL oil pipeline is perfect target. It sits above the Ogallala aquifer, an underground reservoir from South Dakota to Texas, and one of the largest in the country.
Obama and the Environment
Obama is going to remembered for contributing to the United States’ dependency on oil and creating the perfect scenario for an environmental disaster. As much as the Republicans don’t give a crap about the environment, George W. Bush did have a strong opinion of the Canadian tar sands oil.
